It has been called the ‘Great Pacific Garbage Patch’, a region of the North Pacific Ocean containing some 3 million metric tons of trash, mostly plastic debris no larger than a grain of rice. And it isn’t the only region of the ocean where plastic accumulates in such massive quantities.
